2018 Jeep Cherokee vs 2018 Honda CR-V

Proudly Serving Waynesburg, PA

As time has passed, the styles and functions of modern vehicles have changed drastically. However, utility seems to remain one of the foremost important aspects for people who are looking to purchase new vehicles. Two of the more popular vehicles for people seeking utility are the Jeep Cherokee and the Honda CRV. This is a classic comparison of an American made vehicle versus a Japanese import. For good reason, both are very popular and very capable.

Exterior Beauty

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee features one of the most recognized exteriors of any SUV on the road. The latest model looks amazing with the Trailhawk trim that features 18-inch rims and available skid plates. The Overland trim is available with 20-inch rims which add additional beauty as well as utility. This trim also features a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, fog lights and xenon headlights. As always, the New Cherokee features the aggressive grill that made this vehicle into an American Icon.

The all-new Honda CR-V has been completely redesigned and the exterior is very handsome. The EX trim offers 18-inch polished aluminum wheels that compliment the new exterior. The Touring is the top trim which features a power liftgate, roof rails and dual chrome exhaust pipes. However, the CR-V is still built on a car chassis which results in a cute appearance as opposed to the more masculine appeal of the Cherokee. Both of these vehicles are sure to turn heads, but the Cherokee is definitely more attractive.

Interior Design

The Inside of the 2018 Jeep Cherokee rivals that of a modern spacecraft. It features an available 8.4 inch touchscreen interface with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. Power folding mirrors are also available on the Trailhawk trim while the Overland trim features automatic wipers and a power adjustable steering wheel. The extended leather upholstery is also very impressive for a vehicle in this price range. The Summit trim even features noise canceling glass to allow you to enjoy the amazing nine speaker sound system.

Apple CarPlay and Android Audio are available on every trim of the new CR-V. The new model also features available rear privacy glass, heated mirrors and dual zone climate control. This vehicle also has some impressive safety features such as blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning. The 2018 CR-V features ambient interior lighting on the Touring trim which makes it very popular with younger drivers. This trim also features a booming subwoofer audio system which is sure to delight music lovers.

Unfortunately, this is the only advantage that the CR-V offers over the Cherokee. The touchscreen display is a standard 5" with an available 7" upgrade, while the 7" screen is standard on the Cherokee. The Cherokee also features a larger interior for additional comfort.

Performance and Utility

The 2018 Jeep Cherokee is one of the most powerful SUVs on the market. The Trackhawk trim features a 707-hp supercharged V8 that's even faster than the 475-hp SRT trim. This is one of the fastest SUV's on the market and it begs to be driven aggressively. All trims feature an 8-speed automatic that seamlessly transfers power. Like all Cherokees, the new Jeep is ideal for off roading. Each trim also features a 4WD transmission and only the Summit trim lacks a trail rating.

The new CR-V gets an impressive 34 MPG on the highway but the smaller engine isn't ideal for towing. The 4 cylinder generates a modest 184-hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. It handles well and can even be used for light-duty off roading. However, the performance category is heavily tilted in the Jeep's favor.

These vehicles handle similarly, until you accelerate. The Jeep has several very impressive engine's available which will propel them past slower traffic. Drivers who are looking to tow or haul will be rather disappointed by the four cylinder CR-V engine. This is an impressive vehicle by the legendary Japanese car maker, but it's no match for the new Cherokee.
